“Scouting the project with Rion allowed us to discuss image vantage points, light, and composition.  His understanding of architectural design aesthetics contributed to the creative process, which was instrumental in crafting images that support the design narrative.  Further, his technical skill enabled him to capture and convey architectural lighting with images that perfectly align with the architectural design team’s vision.”
The MTSU Student Athlete Performance Center (SAPC) at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was completed as the first phase of the university’s comprehensive $250-million Athletics Master Plan.

The third-floor features a premium dining and bar area with comfortable seating, views of the field, and the custom “lightning bolt” feature defining the ceiling and strengthening the MTSU athletic brand and identity. In addition to high-performing functionality, custom graphics, and warm finishes, the signature Blue Raider colors are present throughout the facility.  Photographing the space during the day created visual interconnectivity to the existing stadium and field.

The 90,000 square foot multi-story event venue defines the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raider Athletic experience.  Showcasing the student-athlete performance building at twilight from the field captures the entire south façade, while the camera position on the field allows the viewer to see the signature lightning bolt within the hospitality space on the third floor.

The three-story entrance features the MTSU logo on the floor pattern and the upper level of the metallic wall.  Achieving this wide view required the photo team to stretch beyond standard lens optics.  Our solution was to shift our lens to four different positions, one exposure for each quadrant of the composition, to provide this finished image with very little distortion. These exposures were then stitched seamlessly in post-production to render the final view.

Amongst the diversity of spaces on the building’s first floor is the football locker room.  These compositions were chosen to emphasize the bold graphics and the Blue Raider colors to complement the school’s brand and design narrative.

The Strength & Conditioning Center serves as one of the facility’s marquee spaces. It features a layout designed to maximize athletic performance, promote recovery, and foster long‑term development.  The north-facing glass wall brings soft light into the space, and allows the weight area to become a “shining jewel” after-hours.
